At the beginning of the year, you set a goal to lose weight. You changed your eating habits by cutting out sugar, snacks, soda drinks and foods such as bread, pasta, white rice, and white potatoes.
You started exercising a few days a week doing a combination of cardio and resistance training workouts.
You started well and were consistent with your eating habits and exercise routine while working full time, taking care of your family and studying part-time.
You weighed yourself every day of every week. At first you lost a few pounds, then to your surprise, the weight stopped coming off.
You responded by eating less and less plus exercising more, but the weight still didn’t come off.
Then one day, you started thinking:
‘What’s the point? I’m making all these changes and sacrifices and the weight isn’t coming off’.
‘Why am I cutting out my favourite foods and dragging myself to exercise if the weight isn’t changing?’
From there, you start to question whether you’re doing something wrong or not doing enough.
Next, you start thinking that you’re a failure, you don’t have what it takes, something is wrong with you, and you’ll never reach your goal, so you give up.
You go back to eating whatever you want and exercising sporadically.
Then, you feel guilty for giving up on your goal and stuck because you’re not motivated to try again.
